The Walking Dead: Dead City has wrapped its third season, but Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) story may be far from over. Season 3 said goodbye to a few longtime enemies, as well as some newer ones, while Maggie and a begrudging Negan attempted to build a thriving community in Manhattan.
The eight-episode season also expanded Dead City beyond Maggie and Negan’s complicated relationship, introducing new allies and enemies while continuing to explore whether these two survivors can ever truly escape the people they were. Naturally, the finale leaves plenty to talk about, and plenty of story that could carry the series forward.

Will there be a Season 4 of The Walking Dead: Dead City?
While not officially greenlit, there is industry and fan hope for a Dead City Season 4 renewal depending on final viewership numbers.
Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple recently shared that the television universe is far from over, but it is shifting into a new phase with a slower rollout to focus on better stories, per Forbes. Gimple recently clarified that despite the upcoming end of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon in 2027, AMC intends to keep “ongoing things” on the air. He explicitly stated that he is actively planning and hoping for Dead City Season 4.
What is The Walking Dead: Dead City about?
The series is a spinoff from the original The Walking Dead that follows former enemies Maggie and Negan as they team up in a ruined, zombie-infested Manhattan. During the course of the series, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped in different war zones as factions fight for control over New York City’s resources.

How did The Walking Dead:Dead City Season 3 end?
Delightfully deranged Dillard (Jimmi Simpson) completely unravels in the Dead City Season 3 finale, taking doctor Luis (Raúl Castillo) hostage, killing his sister, community leader Renata (Aimee Garcia), and launching a campaign against Negan after he killed his best buddies, a walker barflies. Maggie, Negan, and Hershel (Logan Kim) rally the community to fight back, with Hershel proving how far he’ll go to protect their home.
The final showdown sees Dillard force Negan to stab Maggie before turning on him himself, but Dillard ultimately loses an arm and is thrown to the walkers. In the aftermath, Maggie puts away her wedding ring and finally accepts that Negan has become family, even if she’ll never forgive him. Negan stays in Manhattan, and Maggie makes him sheriff and her second-in-command as she sets her sights on reclaiming the rest of New York.
