USWNT roster for April friendlies features return of two stalwarts
U.S. women’s national team head coach Emma Hayes has named a 26-player roster for three April friendlies against Japan.
The roster is headlined by the return of two USWNT stalwarts who haven't been with the group for more than a year: Tierna Davidson and Sophia Wilson.
Wilson sat out all of 2025 as she was on maternity leave, giving birth to daughter Gianna in September. The 25-year-old has returned to the field with the Portland Thorns, making four appearances so far this season.
Davidson suffered a torn ACL in March 2025 and has returned to the pitch with Gotham FC this season.
“As our team continues to evolve, it will be great to welcome back Sophia and Tierna, who are not only great players but also contribute positively to our team environment,” said Hayes.
The USWNT will have three matches against Japan, which just won the 2026 Asian Cup.
Hayes side will face the Nadeshiko on April 11 at at PayPal Park in San Jose, California, on April 14 at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington and then on April 17 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

“Japan is undoubtedly one of the top teams in the world, and they are performing at a very high level coming off their Asian Cup title, which was impressive to watch," Hayes said.
"Playing the same country three times in a row, and especially a team that is as dedicated to their style as Japan, will be a massive test for our team and I’m looking forward to seeing how our team handles the numerous challenges these games will present.”
