Mellencamp emphasized the importance of skin checks after her diagnosis with the deadliest form of skin cancer in 2022

Teddi Mellencamp showed off the scars on her back from repeated surgeries for melanoma in a grim reminder to “get your skin checked.”

Her post came on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum’s “least favorite day” of the month: the day she gets immunotherapy for stage 4 cancer.

Before heading for her immunotherapy infusion, Mellencamp, 45, posted a series of videos to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Sept. 16, saying she’s “shaking like a leaf, like I’m so nervous. I don’t know why I have to get like this. I’m freezing, shaking. It happens to me every single time before, and then I think I get really nervous that they’re not going to be able to find my vein, because a lot of times they can’t, because I’ve had so many of these appointments now.”

“I feel like today’s got to be a good day. And I know it’s saving my life, but gosh,” Mellencamp continued in the video, which included a caption thanking Dolores Catania for filling in for her on Two T’s and a Pod, the podcast she hosts with Tamra Judge.

In her next Instagram Stories post, Mellencamp showed off her bandaged arm, explaining that the first attempt to insert a needle for the IV had failed.

“As suspected, first vein collapsed. Now we’re on to looking for a second. There we go. I really want to avoid getting a port,” she said, referring to a medical device that’s placed under the skin to allow easy access for intravenous medication.

However, as she shared, “second time’s the charm,” and doctors found a vein on her other arm.

After a moment of levity, where she and Alexandra Boyd — also known as “Nurse Nanny” — sat in the waiting room and poked fun at the hospital’s patterned ceiling, Mellencamp shared a photo of her bare back, showing scars from 17 surgeries for invasive skin cancer.

“Reminder: Get your skin checked,” she captioned the photo of her back.

Mellencamp was first diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, in 2022. After surgeries, Mellencamp shared that it had metastasized to her brain and lungs in April 2025. She underwent brain surgery to remove the four tumors and has been undergoing regular immunotherapy treatments since.

In October 2025, doctors told her she had “no detectable cancer,” she said she’s still “not considered in remission.” She reiterated that there was “no trace of cancer” during a January 2026 appearance on her Two T’s in a Pod podcast.
