Werewolf Gorge will be the world's longest family coaster and the longest coaster in Six Flags Fiesta Texas history

The ride combines immersive storytelling with thrilling features like four launches, a 40-foot drop, and 32 airtime moments

Set to debut in 2027, it will coincide with Six Flags Fiesta Texas' 35th anniversary season

A mysterious, centuries-old werewolf is emerging at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and guests can have a face-to-face encounter with the creature when a brand-new, record-breaking coaster opens at the park next year.

On Saturday, May 30, officials at the San Antonio amusement park unveiled the plans for Werewolf Gorge, a first-of-its-kind family launch coaster that will combine a high-thrill experience with immersive storytelling.

Set to be the world's longest family coaster, the attraction will also be the longest coaster in the park's history. Spanning 4,120 feet of track, the ride lasts 2 minutes and 36 seconds. Guests will be treated to four launches reaching speeds up to 45 mph, a mid-course rollback, a 40-foot drop, an 85-foot elevation change and 32 floater airtime moments — the most ever incorporated into a family roller coaster.

The ride's story will take place in a mysterious Texas quarry steeped in legend, much like the park's real quarry setting. In the queue, riders will step through eccentric entrepreneur Jasper Bunyan's roadside attractions like the Museum of Cryptids and Werewolf Museum. What will begin as a guided tour aboard a rugged mine train will quickly transform into a high-speed escape after riders encounter a towering werewolf figure.

"It delivers an experience that is approachable for families, yet unmatched anywhere in the world," park manager Robert Bustle said in a press release shared with PEOPLE.

Developed by the Netherlands-based ride manufacturer Vekoma, the ride will have a minimum height requirement of just 39 inches, meaning even some of the littlest thrill-seekers can experience the attraction.

The ride is set to debut in 2027 as part of the park's 35th anniversary season. It opened in 1992 as simply Fiesta Texas before Time Warner took over management in 1996 and officially changed the name to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, according to My San Antonio.

Werewolf Gorge isn't the only record-breaking coaster Six Flags is currently developing in the Lone Star State. In Arlington, work continues on Six Flags Over Texas's Tormenta Rampaging Run.

The highly anticipated roller coaster — the world's tallest, fastest, longest and first-ever giga (300-plus-foot-tall) dive coaster — entered its testing phase last week. On May 27, park officials shared footage of the ride vehicle climbing 309 feet into the air before a massive 285-foot drop.

In addition to being the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster in the world, the attraction will also break the record for the tallest vertical coaster loop at 179 feet, the highest Immelmann inversion at 218 feet and the highest 95-degree beyond-vertical drop at 285 feet.

While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, the park has said it will open this year as part of Six Flags Over Texas' 65th anniversary.
