Ryan Lochte is ready to share his story — all of it.
The 12-time Olympic medalist, 41, announced in an Instagram Reel on Tuesday, Dec. 9, that he has decided to write a book "after lots of healing and growing." The former competitive swimmer said he finally has the confidence to share with his fans "what it was like being Ryan Lochte."

"I went from a single guy who only cared about surfing and hanging out with his friends and family, who had barely kissed a girl until I was in college — I know — to becoming one of the world's most eligible bachelors," said Lochte.
"The parties, the glam, the celebrities, the life most people couldn't fathom. I was on top of the world, and in an instant, I became the most hated person in the world," he continued, referencing the Rio 2016 Olympics during which Lochte falsely claimed that he and his teammates were robbed at gunpoint.
The Olympian said that's when he found himself at his "lowest point with a son on the same way with someone I barely knew."

He and his estranged wife, Kayla Reid Lochte, share three children: son Caiden Zane, 8, and daughters Liv Rae, 6, and Georgia June, 2. Kayla filed for divorce in March, and he has gone public with his new girlfriend, Molly Gillihan, amid their divorce battle.
Lochte said he was "depressed to my core" and turned to "alcohol, drugs and sleep" at that time. The former athlete was also in a severe car accident in 2023 that led him to struggle with substance abuse this year and go to rehab.
"If it wasn't for so many of you to see the drastic change in me the last couple of months, I wouldn't have realized and been able to reflect on how deep my depression had gotten," he said. "I feel so relieved and just like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I found my voice and confidence again, my mojo."
Lochte ended his video by telling fans that he is thankful to have rekindled his relationship with his mom, who met his children for the first time "a couple months ago."

"I'm now embracing the life that God has always planned for me and I always dreamed of. My kids are seeing their dad happy and at peace in my home — something they didn't see before," he said. "I'm determined to not let them or anyone down again."
Lochte echoed the sentiment in the post's caption, adding that he believes that God has given him "a new purpose."
