Sir Richard Branson thanked fans for sharing "such kind messages" about his late wife Joan

He shared a pair of photos of the couple together and shared how the family is doing now, two weeks after her death

Sir Richard Branson is sharing his gratitude to fans two weeks after the death of his wife Joan Templeman.

The Virgin Group founder, 75, thanked fans in an Instagram post on Monday, Dec. 8, for their ā€œkindā€ tributes to his late wife Joan — who died at the age of 80, he announced on Nov. 25 — alongside throwback photos of the pair.

In the first snap, he and Joan are seen taking a stroll side by side as Joan wrapped her arms around Branson’s. The couple beamed at the camera as they wore matching black outfits.

In a second photo, the billionaire businessman laughed as he put his hands on both sides of his wife’s head as she sat down. She also smiled, as the pair matched in white outfits.

ā€œThank you to everyone who has shared such kind messages about Joan,ā€ Branson wrote alongside the photos.

ā€œOur whole family are so touched by the outpouring of love,ā€ he continued. ā€œIt brings us great comfort and it means so much to us all. We’re the kind of family that now just want to celebrate Joan and the wonderful life she lived.ā€

He went on to say that he was ā€œso fortunate to have metā€ his wife ā€œall those years agoā€ because of the light and happiness she brought into his life.

ā€œShe was just a joy to be around - as so many of your messages reiterated,ā€ he said. ā€œSending big hugs to everyone who has been in contact. And to anyone who has lost a family member recently, our thoughts (and Joan’s thoughts, I’m sure) are with you as well.ā€

Branson announced the news of Joan’s death alongside a photo of his beloved wife dressed in a red dress smiling at the camera. He described her as ā€œthe most wonderful mum and grandmum our kids and grandkids could have ever wished forā€ and ā€œmy best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world.ā€

Several of Joan’s loved ones, including her and Branson’s son Sam Branson, paid tribute to her following her death. On Instagram, Sam called his mother ā€œthe kindest, most loving, warm and abundantly generous woman to walk this Earth.ā€
