Queen Camilla and Princess Catherine’s relationship has taken a dramatic turn after the former has reportedly been forced to maintain acordial relationship with her stepdaughter-in-law. According to a report by Closer, a royal source has shared that Camilla fears for her future in the royal palace after Prince William is crowned as the new King.
She is reportedly wary of her situation and is thinking about the bigger picture, in which she can’t afford to have the Princess of Wales as her enemy. More importantly, she is afraid of how William would treat her if she were not on “decent terms with his wife.”

According to an exclusive report byCloser, a royal insider told the outlet that tension between King Charles and Queen Camilla, and Prince William and Princess Catherine is growing. This has added to the Queen’s problems because she could feel William and Middleton “breathing down her neck.”
Her fear continues to grow because she believes that once the Prince of Wales succeeds his father, he will “push her aside.” After all, she played a role inPrince Harry’s reunion with his father, and is even reportedly siding with the Sussexes after their U.K. return.
Camilla has reportedly acknowledged that Middleton ‘holds the key’ to her long-term role in the royal family. The insider continued that this has forced her to ‘swallow her pride’ and “make nice” with the future Queen.
“No matter how wary Camilla may be towards Kate, she genuinely can’t afford to have her as an enemy,” they said. “For one thing, Charles has a huge amount of respect and love for Kate, so bickering with her doesn’t go over well with him. But even more crucial is how William feels and she’s simply never going to get anywhere with him if she isn’t on decent terms with Kate.”
They emphasized that the Queen might need William’s help sooner than expected and could get “booted out,” which would be her “worst possible nightmare.” The insider remarked, “She wants to strike some sort of compromise that would allow her to hold onto all her perks and privileges when the time comes.”

However, the only possibility of keeping those privileges would be if she started “being nice to Kate.”
King Charles’ Cancer Treatment Reportedly Forced Queen Camilla to Show ‘Humility’ Towards Princess Catherine
In the same report from Closer, the source explained that King Charles and Queen Camilla’s U.S. trip in April 2026 forced her to change her approach to William. It was reported that the Prince did not want His Majesty to travel while he was undergoing cancer treatment.
However, his concerns were overruled by the Queen, and she was reportedly adamant about showing the strength of the monarchy. With Charles now undergoing a lighter regimen of treatment, it changed her attitude toward Middleton.
“There’s been an awful lot of friction between them over the years so this is taking a huge amount of humility on Camilla’s part,” the source mentioned. But they clarified that it was not Camilla’s style and rather it was one of her “desperate measures.” They added, “This does feel very desperate for her because she knows everything could change suddenly and, however painful it is to contemplate, she feels she needs to be prepared”
