Princess Grace of Monaco’s granddaughter, Princess Alexandra of Hanover, announced her engagement on Instagram on September 11.

Alexandra and her soon-to-be husband, Ben-Sylvester Strautmann, have dated for a decade.

He proposed with a “stunning” 4.8-carat yellow diamond that contains hidden nods to their love story.

Princess Grace of Monaco’s granddaughter Princess Alexandra of Hanover is engaged after a 10-year romance with Ben-Sylvester Strautmann, who proposed to the royal with a dazzling yellow diamond engagement ring.

On September 11, Alexandra announced on Instagram that she and her longtime boyfriend were engaged, showing off photos of the ring and her beloved long-haired dachshund, Eloise. “The marriage plot,” she captioned the carousel, adding several yellow heart emojis for good measure.

Per Tatler, Alexandra’s ring was designed by Antinori di Sanpietro and features a 4.8-carat Fancy Yellow diamond chosen by Strautmann. Two trillion-cut diamonds flank the center stone, which is set in 18-carat yellow and white gold.

Strautmann was born in Germany but moved to Monaco as a child; he and Alexandra—the daughter of Princess Caroline, Grace and Prince Rainier’s oldest child—moved in similar social and academic circles while growing up there, Page Six reported. The two were first romantically linked in 2016, and they confirmed their relationship the following year by stepping out at Monaco’s famed Rose Ball in 2017. Since then, they’ve been spotted together at events like the Paris Olympics and the Monaco Grand Prix. Alexandra currently sits at 13th in the line of succession to the Monegasque throne, and she is the niece of the current monarch, Prince Albert.

Her “vivid” engagement ring has an estimated value of $203,000, according to Hello!, which noted that the sparkler also has “unique” hidden details. Jewelry expert Jessica Flinn-Allen told the outlet that “Alexandra’s ring is a stunning trilogy-style engagement ring, set with a beautiful, vivid yellow cushion cut diamond, estimated to be around 5 carats.”

“Accented by two trillion cut, colorless diamonds, this ring style is modern yet timeless, and is unique with the soft curves of the cushion cut contrasted with the geometric lines of the trillion diamonds,” she added. “Her ring has a platinum band, with her center diamond set in double talon yellow gold claws to perfectly complement it.”

Tatler—which called Alexandra a “Monaco it girl—reported that her ring “bears a secret design beneath its setting, incorporating a motif inspired by the geometric patterns of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, as well as inscriptions reading ‘Antinori’ and ‘Made in Italy’—references to the royal couple’s love of the city.”

Alexandra is a fan of fashion, often attending fashion shows like Chanel’s presentation during Paris Fashion Week, which she took part in alongside her sister Charlotte Casiraghi. Alexandra has also been seen at Milan Fashion Week alongside Princess Diana’s niece Lady Kitty Spencer, and when the 27-year-old made her social debut at the Rose Ball when she was 16, the low-key royal told journalists, “You can just call me Alex.”

Alexandra is private about her love life, but previously told the Spanish magazine Telva that it’s her desire to lead a “normal life.”

“I’m not yet fully aware that I might have a voice, nor of my status as a princess,” she said in translated text, per Hello!. “I try not to think about it, while still being grateful, of course, but how privileged I’ve been. But I want a normal life.”
