The Prince and Princess of Wales are adapting to a new chapter following Prince George's recent milestone, which has brought change for the entire household.

The 13-year-old future King officially began his studies at Eton College this week. While undoubtedly a proud occasion for Prince William and Princess Kate, it also represents a significant transition as their eldest son departs for boarding school.

With George settling into dormitory life, royal commentator Pauline Maclaran explained to The Mirror US how this alters the everyday rhythm within the Wales family home.

Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever and a professor at Royal Holloway, believes the household will certainly notice the change, though fortunately, the distance isn't substantial.

She explained: "The Wales household will certainly seem a little quieter now George has started at Eton College. However, Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park - where the Waleses live -is not very far away from Eton College, being only a 10-15 minute car drive."

"So there will be plenty of opportunities for the family to visit him and to watch sports matches he's involved in and other school performances, as well as George coming home some weekends no doubt," she continued. Regarding the household dynamics, a new pecking order naturally emerges when the eldest child departs.

Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, continue their studies at Lambrook School. However, with George absent throughout the week, Charlotte assumes the role of eldest sibling at home, essentially becoming the leader of the "mini royals."

Simultaneously, observing George in his new surroundings underscores the dramatic difference between royal life and ordinary upbringings. For global observers, the institution's traditional uniform requirements are certainly eye-catching.

Maclaran noted, "The Eton College school dress (as it is known) is very formal - black tailcoat, a waistcoat, pinstriped trousers, and a stiff white collar - giving it quite an antiquated look but marking the school's very elite and traditional standing."

She added, "Here is where many prime ministers, politicians, famous artists and other royals (including William of course) have been educated so the school has played a significant role in many aspects of British history."

Though donning a three-piece tailored suit daily for classes may appear excessive, it represents powerful symbolism for a future monarch.

William and Kate offered a brief snapshot of George's momentous first day to address public curiosity, though coverage will probably diminish moving forward.

Similar to the media arrangement that afforded William privacy throughout his time at Eton College and at university, the press is expected to maintain distance so that George can concentrate on his studies and experience life as an ordinary student.
