Prince William and Prince Harry haven’t spoken in years, and few expect that to change soon. Now, as the Sussex family settles back into life in the UK, royal watchers believe there may be one factor strong enough to bridge the divide between the brothers.

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain, attention has turned to whether the rift between Prince William and Harry can be mended. According to sources quoted by The i Paper, a full reconciliation looks unlikely in the near future. “It’s not a row that’s going to be healed any time soon,” says Simon Vigar.

Still, the royal correspondent pointed to one possible path forward. He says that the children could play a key role in the relationship between the two brothers. With Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, now enrolled in school in the UK, they would be merely hours away from their cousins. Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, reside with their parents in Windsor Great Park.

“As much as anything for the King and his grandchildren – it’d be weird if Lilibet and Archie didn’t get to know their cousins,” said the source. They added that “perhaps in the end the children coming together will be the unifying thing.”

Katie Nicholl, author of “The New Royals,” also offered a similarly cautious but hopeful outlook. Speaking to The i Paper, she notes that reconciliation is “on Harry’s agenda.” However, while he “managed to get the King’s ear… but winning William over is going to be much harder.”

She also noted that if the Sussexes move to the UK permanently, then “the Waleses won’t have much option.” With Prince William set to be head of the Church of England as future King, “he must embody forgiveness and compassion.”

For now, no formal meeting between the two brothers has been confirmed. But with both sets of children living in England for the first time, royal commentators suggest that this proximity alone could prove to be a way out of the royal rift.
