Sources have shed light on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reaction to King Charles’ recently released letter. According to reports, the couple is “frustrated” by how the monarch conveyed the message clarifying their royal working status. They are reportedly unhappy with being described as “private individuals.”

It is reported that the way King Charles worded the letter did not sit well with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The letter was released to clarify that the Sussexes remain private individuals and that their charitable work is personal, with no association with the royal family.

According to The Telegraph, the couple reportedly took issue with being described as “private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.” The report also revealed that the letter was issued without their consultation. Instead, Harry and Meghan reportedly preferred the “public figures” label.

The couple also wanted Buckingham Palace to acknowledge that they remain associated with the royal family on a personal level, despite being non-working royals and no longer receiving taxpayer-funded security. It’s understood that the monarch and his staff informed the Sussexes ahead of the letter’s release and were prepared to clarify “one or two points.”

According to the outlet, the letter was shared at 1:59 p.m. UK time on Monday. The couple’s staff responded 20 minutes later, asking whether the letter had been distributed. At 3:09 p.m., aides contacted Harry, who was reportedly in a meeting, to inform him about the Palace’s letter and check whether it had been released. However, the letter had already been made public three minutes earlier without the Sussexes’ knowledge.

Another source told the that Harry and Markle were not given enough time to thoroughly review the letter. The source claimed that the couple received it just about an hour before it had been made available to the public. Although Harry and Meghan are reportedly disappointed by the letter, another royal insider suggested that clarifying the current status of all parties involved was ultimately beneficial.
