Prince Harry and King Charles have reportedly spoken since Harry’s return to the UK. That’s despite earlier reports claiming otherwise. Sources close to Harry say the two connected within his first week back in the Cotswolds. However, they still haven’t met in person.

Prince Harry is reportedly frustrated over being “pitted against” King Charles amid renewed tension. A source told the Daily Express that Harry is growing frustrated. He feels he’s being pitted against his father right as they’re starting to rebuild their bond. That progress reportedly took a real step forward in July. The King and Queen hosted the entire Sussex family for tea at Highgrove, their most significant meeting in years.

Tensions resurfaced this week over a new Palace letter clarifying Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal status. The couple reportedly took issue with being called “akin to private citizens.” According to the source, Harry felt the phrase didn’t add up. Formal guidance wouldn’t even be needed if that were fully true, he reportedly argued. The Sussexes preferred the term “public figures” instead.

Team Sussex also claimed they were caught off guard by the letter’s release. A detailed timeline shared by the couple’s team laid out the confusion. Harry reportedly wasn’t briefed until minutes after the Palace had already spoken to the press. Palace sources have pushed back, insisting nothing in the letter was actually new.

The tension comes as Harry faces a separate blow to his Invictus Games project. Uganda’s military chief announced this week that the country is withdrawing its support. He cited loyalty to King Charles in his statement. Uganda, he wrote, “shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty’s approval.”

The Invictus Games Foundation said it was unaware of the announcement and has reached out for clarification. There’s no indication the King himself opposes the project. He’s expected to support it again at the 2027 Birmingham Games. Charles did the same back at its 2014 launch.
