The next stage of the future King’s education is set to begin as Prince George starts his first day at Eton College.
The 13-year-old, who was last seen publicly alongside his family at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, moves to the renowned public school previously attended by both his father, the Prince of Wales, and his uncle, the Duke of Sussex.
Before enrolling at Eton, George was educated at Lambrook School, a private prep establishment in Berkshire. His younger siblings, 11-year-old Princess Charlotte and eight-year-old Prince Louis, also attend the school.
Speculation over George’s future academic path intensified in 2023 when William and Kate were reportedly seen taking their eldest son on a tour of the Eton campus. Some royal observers predicted he would choose Marlborough College, the institution attended by his mother, Princess Catherine.
His father’s arrival at the institution on 6 September 1995 was a public affair, with photographers capturing William signing in alongside his brother Harry and parents Charles and Diana, the then Prince and Princess of Wales.

William’s attendance at Eton was a significant break in royal tradition at the time, as it was expected he would go to Gordonstoun in Scotland, which his father Charles and grandfather Philip both attended.
The young prince previously attended Lambrook School, the private prep school in Berkshire, also attended by his siblings Princess Charlotte, 11, and eight-year-old Prince Louis.
Eton College remains one of the world's most prominent schools, renowned for fostering leadership and independence through a wide array of non-academic requirements.
Admission is rigorous, with the boys going through stringent tests, and parents pay an annual fee of £63,298 for a school whose name is likely to be more influential than the academic qualifications gained by pupils.
Eton, a boarding school founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, prides itself on educating Britain’s future leaders, including former Prime Ministers Robert Walpole, David Cameron and Boris Johnson.
Its roll call of famous past pupils also includes actors Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Eddie Redmayne, writers George Orwell and Ian Fleming, and adventurer Bear Grylls.

The King went to Gordonstoun, a school in the Scottish Highlands attended by his father, the late Duke of Edinburgh, and he told biographer Jonathan Dimbleby his time there was “a prison sentence” – but instilled self-discipline and a sense of responsibility.
