Mike Santana is no more; say hello to Cruz Montana.
Santana made his official debut as a member of the NXT roster last week, confronting NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo after a successful NXT Championship defense. Santana didn’t speak, and the commentary team specifically omitted his name.
Now, the former TNA World Champion has cut a promo, confirming his new name will be Cruz Montana:
“Hey yo check it: last week, I made my official debut on NXT and set the wrestling world on fire, all without saying a thing. But my action let everyone know exactly what my sights were set on. But tomorrow night, live, I put words behind those actions. And for the first time, you get to hear what Cruz Montana has to say. I’ll see you all then; let’s get it.”
The WWE star confirms the new ring name fans had been speculating about
WWE filed an application to trademark “Cruz Montana” on July 24.

There was no immediate confirmation of who the name was for, but some fans expressed concern that it could be linked to Santana. The former TNA World Champion has appeared on WWE NXT using the name Mike Santana before, but fans worried that WWE would change his name. Some argued that it didn’t make sense to change it since he’s already been in NXT under his known name, but as Santana just confirmed, he’s using a new name moving forward.
NXT General Manager Robert Stone also hyped the appearance, writing the following on Twitter/X:
“Tomorrow we hear from Cruz Montana LIVE on @WWENXT !!!”
