Luka Doncic’s former assistant coach in Dallas, Igor Kokoškov, revealed a shocking impression of former Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd. The two worked together in the 2021-22 NBA season before Kokoškov moved to the Brooklyn Nets.
Kokoškov, who currently heads player development for the basketball league Project B and also coached Doncic during the EuroBasket 2017 gold medal run, discussed his time with Kidd in a quote posted by a Mavs fan account, MFFL, on Tuesday:
“I didn’t have a good experience with him, nor do I have a high opinion of him off the court or as a head coach. After that 1st year in Dallas, I got a call from (Steve) Nash, inviting me to join Brooklyn. I was working for the worst guy in the NBA and now I have a call from best guy in the NBA.”
While some fans were shocked to learn behind-the-scenes details of their relationship, others expected such things from Kidd, as one wrote:
“Most people in the league don’t like Jason Kidd. He might be one of the least liked guys in the NBA.”
Meanwhile, Doncic moved to LA after a few seasons, while the Mavericks went into a rebuilding phase. Kidd also parted ways with the Mavs after Miriam Adelson and her family took over the franchise in 2023.
