An executive producer for Love Island USA has died while the show films in Fiji.
The reality series, which airs on Peacock, has been filming its eighth season in the tropical paradise, where singles compete to couple up and remain committed to a relationship in the hopes of winning a $100,000 prize, while obstacles emerge in the form of new competitors entering throughout the series to try to break the couples up.
Now, as fans continue to question moments on the show with the cast, it has been revealed that a key member of the show's production team, identified as executive producer James Barker, has died during filming.

According to TMZ, the network has confirmed his death in a statement.
"ITV America and Peacock will honor in Tuesday's episode of Love Island USA series Executive Producer James Barker, who passed away last week in Fiji after suffering an unexpected medical emergency," the network told the site.
"James' unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock," the statement continued.

"He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to James' partner, family, friends ad colleagues."

The details behind his death and what the medical emergency was remain unclear.
The series is currently filming episodes in its famed villa, which is located on the South Pacific Ocean island.
Barker, according to his LinkedIn page, joined ITV America around August 2020 and worked on the franchise on and off for several years before becoming a full-time executive producer in January 2026.

Other work within the franchise included as a freelance story producer, supervising producer, and freelance co-executive producer, as well as a co-executive producer on both the show's fifth season and the first season of Love Island games. He was also listed as an executive producer on seasons 6 and 7 of Love Island and Love Island Games Season 2.
Barker was 40 at the time of his death, Deadline reports. Prior to his time working with Love Island, Barker also worked on several other hit reality shows.

While working with Leftfield Pictures, he served as a producer on the show Forged in Fire, and after joining ITV, held positions as a producer on Queer Eye and Chopped.
He also held Senior Producer roles on Legendary, Love After Lockup, Pillow Talk, and Bake Squad, as well as a Supervising Producer on Table Wars.
