Chappell Roan’s temporary tattoos brought together her daring outfit at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The singer, 27, showed up to the awards show, where she was nominated for Record of the Year and Pop Solo Performance, in a sheer maroon Mugler gown. Her outfit featured an invisible bodice with fabric draping from faux nipples and nipple rings.

With an abundance of skin on display, it was impossible not to catch sight of her new ink.

Roan’s body was covered in intricate faux tattoos on the front and back. The back, notably, featured a large lace piece. The look was created by Andrew Dahling in partnership with MAC Cosmetics, according to Marie Claire.

"We started with this very archival, full, bare moment. Once the tattoos came into play, everything became very medieval, but in a real way. It's still fantasy and something otherworldly, but grounded," he told the outlet.

Dahling also shared why he and Roan opted for more subtle makeup, despite her signature dramatic looks.

"There was so much going on — the tattoos, the prosthetic nipples, all of it — but overall we wanted everything to feel cohesive and really honor the dress and the medieval world we were living in. The glam came from that," the makeup artist said.

Roan’s dress flowed out into a train behind her and showed off her black underwear underneath. For red carpet interviews, she draped a matching maroon cape over her look.

Her outfit was inspired by the spring/summer 1998 "Jeu de Paume" couture collection by Manfred Thierry Mugler, revisited for the spring/summer 2026 collection by Miguel Castro Freitas.

The “Subway” singer changed into a beige draped gown to present Best New Artist — an award she won the year before — during the ceremony. For the delicate look, she ditched her temporary tattoos and added a gold dangling necklace and an arm cuff.

Roan, in addition to her fake tattoos, has some real ink. She shared one of her more recent tattoos on Instagram last November.

“Very into swans + Duolingo + cats as of late,” the singer captioned the post, which included snaps of her lying in a chair while being tattooed and a tattoo of a swan on her arm.

On Jan. 27, Roan was honored at We Are Moving the Needle's 2026 Resonator Awards in Los Angeles with the Harmonizer Award for using her art to spark social change.

“I think that the only thing that matters is community and kindness and giving what you have,” she said in her acceptance speech.

The Grammys are broadcasting live from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on CBS or stream them live and on-demand on Paramount+.
