Eric Roberts broke his silence on missing his daughter Emma Roberts’ wedding.
Emma married Cody John on Saturday in Idaho, which Eric said is “perfectly wonderful.”
Although Eric wasn’t in attendance, his sister Julia Roberts and her husband Danny Moder were.
Eric Roberts is opening up about missing his daughter Emma Roberts’ wedding to Cody John over the weekend.
The actor confirmed to Page Six in a statement that he was not in attendance at the nuptials after he was spotted leaving a gym in Los Angeles on Sunday.
“I love my daughter, always have, always will,” he said. “It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants.”
Eric’s rep confirmed the statement to Entertainment Weekly but had no further comment.
Emma and her beau of four years said “I do” at a private ceremony in Idaho on Saturday, per Vogue. Her 5-year-old son with ex Garrett Hedlund, Rhodes, walked her down the aisle.
Vogue also shared photos of the Emma’s Monique Lhuillier wedding dress from her final fitting. For the outdoor ceremony, Emma donned a custom, flowy gown decorated with silk chiffon and paired with a see-through shawl and long, white veil. Meanwhile, John wore a brown suit.
Photos obtained by celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi confirmed the attendance of Emma’s aunt and Eric’s sister Julia Roberts and her husband Danny Moder.

Other stars on the guest list included Ashley Benson and her husband, Brandon Davis, Demi Moore, Kristen Stewart and her wife, Dylan Meyer, and Emma’s American Horror Story costars Sarah Paulson and Billie Lourd.
Emma’s mom Kelly Cunningham was also at the wedding, but the actress has an estranged relationship with her father, Eric, who has spoken about his daughter in recent interviews.
He told the Really Famouspodcast in April that his relationship with Emma is “only complicated through outside eyes.”

“Because they don’t get any of it,” he said of public interest in the father-daughter dynamic. “So, they have their own take, whatever that is, and it’s not a straight line because they’re not really involved. So it’s just thoughts, possibilities, interests, fantasies, whatever it is. But it’s not a real relationship with the subjects, so how could it be anything but a thought?”
Eric, 70, welcomed Emma, now 35, with ex Cunningham in February 1991 — a time when, he admitted, he was “a car wreck.”
“Emotionally, I was a wash rag,” he told Really Famous host Kara Mayer Robinson. “I was not to be depended on emotionally, whatsoever... but I take full responsibility for it.”
Eric also spoke about Emma during a 2024 appearance on the Inside of You podcast, admitting that he gained a new perspective on his “sadness” over the loss of his and Emma’s bond in recent years.
“I started accepting that about myself with the birth of my grandchildren,” said Eric, who is grandpa to Emma’s son Rhodes and two other grandkids through his stepchildren with wife Eliza Roberts.
“We’re all very close,” he said of his and Eliza’s family, noting how one of his granddaughters looks just like Emma. “Same coloring. And so it reminds me of what I didn’t have.”

“[Parenting is] the hardest job to do well and the easiest job to get on the planet. It’s a hard job,” he told Robinson.

Eric also reportedly shares a distant relationship with sister Julia, but he stated otherwise in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter‘s It Happened in Hollywood podcast in April.
“You might have read that somewhere, but you don’t know that, because it’s not true,” he said of their strained siblinghood. “It never was true. We’re fine. We have disagreements, as people do, but we like and respect each other very much.”
