Emma Roberts didn’t want to look like a princess on her wedding day, she wanted to look like a ghost.

Apparently, Roberts’ years as a haunting addition to the cast of* American Horror Story *— to which she’s returning this month —* *left a big impression, because the actress brought that spooky vibe to her wedding day in July, when she married her beau of four years, Cody John.

“The vibe was vintage, lace, form fitting,” Roberts explained when asked about her dress during a recent visit to the *Sibling Revelry* podcast. “I said, I wanted to look like a haunted doll, which people thought was weird, but that was my vibe.”

Roberts donned a custom Monique Lhuillier gown decorated with silk chiffon and paired with a see-through shawl and long, white veil for her wedding day. To create a vintage off-white effect, the yards of pink fabric used to create the dress were dipped in ecru.

“It was tea dipped,” she explained. “ I wanted to look like a ghost, which people also thought was weird, but I loved it. And I have no regrets.”

Roberts and John tied the knot in a private Idaho ceremony on July 25, with a guest list of around 200 people, including Emma’s aunt, Julia Roberts, and her husband, Danny Moder. The bride-to-be spoke to *Vogue* while attending the final fitting for her wedding dress, which saw her explain what fueled her to seek out the “vintage-inspired” look.

“I’m obsessed with antique books and treasure hunting, and I love collecting old ephemera,” she shared. “ So I really wanted that to shine through in the dress.”

She added that she was hoping to look like “a little antique ghost doll.”

In addition to getting her ideal dress, Roberts told *Sibling Revelry* hosts Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson that her wedding day was perfect in ways she didn’t anticipate.

“We got married in Sun Valley, Idaho. It was so amazing, it was at his family’s house in the backyard. We put up a tent and had the time of our lives,” she gushed. “ I had like, not low expectations, but I didn’t want to get too excited about it. Everyone tries to tell you like, there can be drama and this and that. So I was just going into it like, ‘It is what it is.’”

But Roberts said that in the end, there was no need to temper her expectations because “it really was one of the best nights of my whole life.”

Recalling a few of her favorite moments from throughout the “magical” night, Roberts said that her 5-year-old son, Rhodes — whom she shares with ex Garrett Hedlund — walked her down the aisle.

“That was like cute and so sweet,” she recalled. “He was so excited.”

Later, as the last song of the night, Roberts requested the Goo Goo Dolls classic, “Iris,” and was astonished by the reaction.

“I’ve never seen this many people of all different ages sing a song at the same time at each other,” she said with a laugh. “Goo Goo Dolls gets people in a place where you were crying. I mean, it was transcendent.”

Roberts and her now-husband have been romantically linked since 2022. John, a fellow actor whose screen credits include *Wu-Tang: An American Saga* and The CW’s *In the Dark*, popped the question two years later. In an effort to maintain their privacy, the couple has largely kept their love story to themselves, only sharing occasional glimpses on social media.
