Chatting with PEOPLE at the Vogue Vintage Market on March 28, the content creator broke down where she gets her style inspiration from

Chamberlain, who often works with her friend and stylist Jared Ellner, said that, despite the circle of stylish friends she surrounds herself with, she surprisingly doesn't go to them for clothing advice

Emma Chamberlain knows her own style. The content creator is known online, not only for her unique and pioneering vlog style, but also for her sartorial style. Over the years, she's sported effortless but unique fashion choices, and she often sources secondhand pieces to complete her unique looks. In fact, Chamberlain's early vlog-style videos included ones where she would take viewers along with her on thrifting sprees. In the years since getting her start on YouTube in 2017, Chamberlain has developed a unique sense of personal style that often fuels fashion trends of its own.She now works closely with her friend Jared Ellner, a celebrity stylist for the likes of Chamberlain, but also Sabrina Carpenter, Rachel Sennott and fellow influencer Owen Thiele, who all coincidentally seem to run in the same friend group.

However, Chamberlain says that, aside from Ellner, whose job it quite literally is to give her fashion advice, she doesn't really take tips from her mutuals when it comes to her style.

"My friends and I don't talk about fashion a lot," she shrugs.

"We just all show up in our outfits, and we trust each other," Chamberlain adds, before quipping that most of their friend group would likely go to Ellner before her.

"At most, we're complimenting each other, but we're all pretty self-assured," she adds."We're not in the group chat freaking out," she says. "Maybe those days are over for us. I'd like to believe that."Chamberlain's style has seen countless evolutions in the nearly 10 years that she's been on the Internet. While at the event, the influencer, who is partnering with eBay, tells PEOPLE that she's always been on a quest to develop her own personal style.

"My mom's always been somebody who loves antiquing, thrifting, things like that," the content creator says, of how she first began to develop her own sense of style."I really started to want to experiment with fashion, but I was like, 'I can't experiment at Urban Outfitters. I don't make my own money like that.' So I started thrifting at my local thrift stores in my town and I would just go in and I would dig."

"You're giving a piece of clothing another life, but then what you're wearing has the wear and tear and the heart and the soul of whoever wore it before, and has a story and it's interesting," she adds of why she loves spending time hunting down new pieces.
