Dermot Mulroney offered an inside look into the 1988 film’s cast reunion, which took place this past weekend at Fan Expo in Dallas. Estevez and Sheen sat next to each other for one image with a nearly identical pose, smiling with their middle finger in the air. Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Terry O’Quinn, and Casey Siemaszko were also present for the reunion.

“PALS since 1877 - turns out we all have different sides of the same memories! Laughed our asses off this weekend,” Mulroney captioned the photo. “When @kiefersutherland says ”never had more fun on a movie” #youngguns you know@you had some fun!”

Mulroney posted a second photo from the event, writing, “38 years later #youngguns rides again - PALS.”

The Western movie starred Estevez as Billy the Kid with the rest of the cast playing members of the “Regulators,” the group of men who lived and worked on John Tunstall’s (Terence Stamp) ranch. The film marked the first of several onscreen collaborations between Estevez and Sheen throughout the years.

The movie grossed $56 million after being made with an $11 million budget. Its success led to the *Young Guns II** *sequel, released in 1990, which had several of the original stars reprising their roles.

In recent years, Estevez has confirmed that a third movie, *Young Guns 3: Dead or Alive*, is in development. During an April 2025 appearance on the *Happy Sad Confused** *podcast, the actor said that he was already thinking about casting. Estevez confirmed at the time that Phillips would be returning as José Chávez y Chávez and Christian Slater, who made his franchise debut in the sequel, was set to come back as “Arkansas” Dave Rudabaugh.

“It does center on a bunch of new regulators. Mostly Latino. Indigenous people. Most of the film takes place in Mexico. And it falls on the eve of the Mexican Revolution,” Estevez said at the time. Sheen wouldn’t be returning, however, since he died in the first film.

In a joint interview last year, Estevez and Sheen discussed the possibility of sharing the screen together again. They kept things open-ended, sharing no hints on what the future might hold.

“I’m often asked if you and I will ever reunite for a film or a TV show,” Estevez said when chatting with Sheen for an *Interview Magazine** *profile one year ago. “And the question I have is, should we? Have we already ticked that box?”

Sheen said it was “a great question,” noting that it’s “the most talked about, mentioned, requested engagement that we get out in the world” together. Estevez added, “I would concur, yes.”
