The WNBA rivalry machine keeps trying to paint a narrative of a bitter, heated feud between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, but both players keep ruining the fabricated scripts nearly every time they play together for Team USA during the FIBA Women's World Cup.
The latest example came during Team USA's 97-79 win over France in the FIBA Women's World Cup final, where ClarkAnd Reese provided yet another major spark off the bench behind a stacked team of WNBA All-Stars and Olympic medal-winning veterans.
With four seconds left in the first half and the USA trying to erase a deficit, Clark buried a three after a Jackie Young assist to cut France's lead to two.

Reese was sitting directly behind Clark on the bench when the shot dropped. She immediately let out a huge scream in support and celebrated the Team USA moment as the Indiana Fever dapped up Young before tracking back on defense.
That dynamic has followed both players for years. Media platforms, rival fanbases and social accounts have repeatedly tried to frame Clark and Reese as enemies, yet the pair keep producing moments that point in the opposite direction as teammates.
Clark had 12 points, three assists, and one rebound in 13 minutes, shooting 4-of-5 from the field.

Reese added three points, three rebounds, one block, and one steal in nine minutes as each won gold in a first senior global championship appearance.
Their chemistry showed up often during the tournament, after Reese assisted Clark following a forced turnover in the quarterfinal against Hungary, and the two repeatedly worked together in pick-and-roll actions off the bench.
The camaraderie also carried away from the court during a locker-room moment earlier in the tournament. Clark hurried to hide her bare feet when a camera entered, prompting Team USA stars and Reese to laugh at her reaction together.

Clark diehards still argue she was marginalized during the tournament. Supporters believe teammates looked her off, wondered why she played limited minutes, and criticized coach Kara Lawson for keeping one of basketball's biggest stars in a reserve role.
Clark's playing time fluctuated throughout the event. She logged 25 minutes against China, 19 against Italy, 22 against Czechia, 20 against Hungary, 16 against Spain, and just over 13 in the final.

Lawson consistently leaned on veterans, with Breanna Stewart becoming the team's anchor. Stewart led the USA in scoring, rebounding, and efficiency during the tournament, while Clark praised her leadership after the gold-medal game.
“Stewie's been a tremendous leader through this whole process for us,” Clark said. She explained that Stewart helped settle the locker room after the narrow win over Italy and reminded younger players that ugly games are normal at a World Cup.
